Our Mission

The Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association is an organization comprising of Fire Departments and their members from across Southwest Virginia. The Association is dedicated to the advancement of the Fire Service and its membership by providing leadership, education, information networking at the local and state levels, and producing an annual conference.

Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association Scholarship Fund

The Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association is offering an annual scholarship for continuing education.   

The objective of the scholarship program is to assist individuals desiring to further their academic education. The scholarship award will be $250.00 and can be utilized for any direct expenses such as registration, tuition, books, meals, lodging or transportation.  The grant period will run from July 1st of the current year to December 31st of the following year.

ELIGIBILITY

(1)Active fire service personnel that are members of the Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association
(2)Spouses and dependents of active fire service personnel that are members of the Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association

SELECTION CRITERIA

Selection of award recipients will be based on demonstrated need, desire, initiative and potential benefits of the educational opportunity. 

HOW TO APPLY

Complete the attached application and send to the address listed below.  Applications will be accepted between September 1st and April 1st to be considered for the current award period.  The grant period will run from July 1st of the current year to December 31st of the following year. Successful applicants will be notified by January 1st.  Verification of attendance will be required.  Awardees will be recognized at the Annual Convention.  For more information, contact:

Who We Are

The purpose of the Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association is to represent all firefighters, career and volunteer, throughout Southwest Virginia. The association sees that we are represented on both the state and federal levels, through our lobbyist and state representatives.

The Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association also works very closely with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs to get classes in southwest Virginia. Through training we become stronger and more proficient in our skills and abilities to protect our communities and neighbors. Training also keeps us healthier and safer as on organization.
